 Constitution day ( 26th November ) 

Constitution Day is a day to celebrate and honour the Constitution of India, which is the supreme law of the land and the foundation of our democracy. On this day, we remember the vision and values of the founding fathers of our nation, who framed the Constitution after years of deliberation and debate. 

The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949, after almost three years of drafting. The Constituent Assembly was chaired by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, who is widely regarded as the chief architect of the Constitution. The Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950, marking the birth of the Republic of India. 

The Constitution of India is the longest written constitution in the world, containing 395 articles, 22 parts and 12 schedules. It lays down the fundamental rights and duties of the citizens, the structure and powers of the government, and the principles of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. The Constitution also embodies the diversity and unity of India, by recognising 22 official languages and granting special status to some regions. 

The Constitution of India is a living document that has been amended 103 times till date to reflect the changing needs and aspirations of the people. The Constitution also provides for a system of judicial review, whereby the Supreme Court and the High Courts can strike down any law or action that violates the Constitution. The Constitution also empowers the Parliament to amend the Constitution, subject to certain limitations. 

The Government of India declared 26 November as Constitution Day on 19 November 2015, to promote the constitutional values among the citizens. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, made the announcement on 11 October 2015, while laying the foundation stone of the B. R. Ambedkar's Statue of Equality memorial in Mumbai. 

On Constitution Day, various activities and events are organised across the country to raise awareness and appreciation of the Constitution. Some of these include reading the preamble of the Constitution, taking the Constitution pledge, conducting quiz and essay competitions, holding mock parliamentary debates, and organising special sessions in the Parliament and the state legislatures. 

Constitution Day is a day to reaffirm our faith in the Constitution and to uphold its ideals and values. It is also a day to pay tribute to the makers of the Constitution, who gave us a remarkable document that guides our nation towards progress and prosperity.
